Endometriosis Survey Shows High Comorbidity Rates

In the Endometriosis community at CureTogether, 137 women were surveyed for having other, co-morbid conditions. 76 (55%) of the respondents reported having at least one other condition. A chart of conditions co-morbid with endometriosis is shown below (click on the chart for a larger view). We define a condition to be co-morbid with endometriosis if more than 5 women reported having both endometriosis and the condition.

Also, the 137 women with endometriosis who contributed the data presented here may not be representative of the general population of women with
endometriosis. There may be a selection bias for people who are more likely to participate in online surveys. A larger study would need to be done using alternate methods of gathering information to reach the population of patients who are not online or not inclined to participate in online surveys. However, the results presented here are informative and suggest what a portion of the endometriosis population is experiencing.

  3. Thanks Jeanne! This has been surprising for us, seeing how many people have so many co-morbid conditions. It’s opening up new questions for us in terms of how we see conditions, not as isolated but interconnected. We need to study them in the context of each other and the bodies they exist in.

  4. This is a real eye-opener. I’ve always thought these symptoms were related, but GPs dismiss them. Just add PCOS to this list and you’ve described me … can’t believe my onion intolerance is on there – what about tomato?
