Migraine-Fibromyalgia Link Reported at CureTogether

CureTogether Data Finds Link Between Self-Reported Migraine and Fibromyalgia
Patients at CureTogether (http://www.curetogether.com) who report migraine are 3.5x more likely to report having fibromyalgia than patients who don’t report migraine. This comes from an analysis of 512 patients – please see the chart, and details below.

Details of the CureTogether Finding…

Among 270 people reporting migraine, 72 (27%) reported also having fibromyalgia, and the remaining 198 specifically reported not having fibromyalgia. Among 242 people reporting “no migraine”, 18 (7%) reported having fibromyalgia, and the remaining 224 people specifically reported not having fibromyalgia.

This 27% vs. 7% relative risk is statistically significant, with a 95% confidence interval of 2.2 – 5.9.

Migraine-Fibromyalgia Research

The importance of this finding is that using only self-reported data, we have found an association between migraine and fibromyalgia that has previously been explored only in clinical studies such as:

1. 22% of female patients with migraine were found to also have fibromyalgia. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16556247

2. Migraine, fibromyalgia, depression and anxiety were found to form a “comorbidity constellation”. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17578536

3. Fibromyalgia is increasingly prevalent with increased headache frequency. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19170692

  1. [...] CureTogether did an amazing presentation and has shown how crowdsourced data can mirror data from clinical studies.  They have shown two examples of this such as in the case of the relationship between infertility and asthma, and most recently, the relationship between migraine and fibromyalgia.   [...]

  2. mm…interesting research
