Re: Tobasco in nose / on tongue — According to some websites, using tobasco or capsacin in the nerves in the nose have led to reduced headache pain. I felt a severe burning sensation with minimal headache improvement.

Re: Red Bull — Tried drinking a redbull (taurine, caffine) as soon as symptoms start to appear. In some cases, I think I was able to completely stop the headache from coming on.

Re: Oxygen — I think the recommended dose was 8 Liters, but I felt much better relief after increasing to 10 or 12 Liters. Cooling sensation in nose seemed to further dull pain. Occasional bloody nose from dryness.

Re: Sumatripan — Available in both pill and injection form (Imitrex). Found that injection form reduces pain levels quickly; however, there are limitations on dosage if you have more than 2 cluster headaches in a day. Experienced tighness in jaw and tingling sensation in head shortly after use.

Re: Cyclic pain (off and on) — Every other 10 min, every other half, or sometimes every other few hours-- bad headache, and then no headache at all. Makes for complicated mood swings too. I've tried to match it up with triggers, like things that I eat or do, but there is not reasonable differentiation. For now, I have written it off as hormonal swings and I'm working that angle. The cluster headaches (as well as other symptoms) seem to do better when my hormones are more consistent (even temperatures, regular cycles). But I've also heard this kind cyclic pain or flare ups associated with auto-immune disorders.

Re: Women to Women Vitamins — After the 1st month, 30-40% better. Experimentally stopped taking them and went back to the same bad headaches every day.

Re: Aspirin — Seemed to help only a little only the first month, then permanently stopped working altogether.

Re: Headache tracking — A lot of work, expecially when having them off/on throughout the day. Helped me diagnose, helped me find patterns over time related to hormones, but has not helped me find immediate triggers (food, time of day, etc) yet.

Re: L-Arginine — Little to no effect. Nurse Practitioner recommended trying a vasodilator such as L-Arginine (picked up at any health food store) to see if it could mimic the effects of coffee to provide some headache relief. In my case, it's safe to rule out vasodilation as the active component to caffeine's affect on headache relief.

Re: Caffeine — I drink decaffeinated coffee 99% of the time, but on the odd occasion I do caffeinated coffee it helps headache relief 80% of the time for about 3-5hours. I'd rather find a more natural cure so I try not to do this.
