Re: Low glycemic index diet — This is just a sneaky way of saying "low sugar/starch, high fiber diet." Only people with no appreciation of basic physiology would think "complex carbohydrates" could be helpful in controlling insulin resistance. People like the ADA. They'll admit low-carb diets help with weight-loss, lipid management and glycemic control, but that "further research" is needed before endorsing this strategy. I imagine when the donations from food conglomerates which crank out addictive, starchy foods and drug companies which market diabetes medications dry up (or hell freezes over, whichever comes first), they'll change their tune.

Re: Vitamin D — See the entry for Vitamin D under "treatment" for "Diabetes Type 2". Most adults witll need at least 4000 IU per day, probably more if obese. Checking blood levels (25-OH vitamin D, NOT 1,25-OH vitamin D) before and after supplementation is important.
