eyemconcerned Re: One eye worse than the other — I recently had a basic "eye chart" exam while waiting to see a doctor in urgent care. All day long I thought I had something in my eye which turned out to be conjuctivitis. It was the eye exam that concerned me most as my eyes have always had perfect vision and now my right eye is 20/70 while my left - the one that had the conjuntivitis - was 20/30. I was shocked and asked the nurse if I could take it over again and did with the same results. I also have reoccurring canker sores in my mount between my cheek and my gums. These canker sores are always only on the right side. Could these be related as I read somewhere they could both be forms of the herpes virus.

The other eye is doing quite well. I have chosen not to wear a contact lense in the transplant eye in an effort to avoid complications and possible cornea scratching. In recent years the eye with the corneal transplant has remained very stable and there has been some increase in vision. The eye without the corneal transplant in recent years has shown improved vision and the progression of the disease has moved very slowly. I function well and drive at night without issues.
Prior to the corneal transplant the eye that was most effected by the disease lost sight rapidly. I went through numerous pairs of glasses a year. My attempt at contact lenses was not very comfortable. The contact lenses enabled me to see, but I could only wear them for about 10-12 hours a day. I was very fortunate to have the vision in my good eye improve on it's own well enough to function and see okay with corrective glasses. This enabled me to put off my corneal transplant and still be able to work and function.
