This is the fifth time I have had prostatitis now, and it seems to show up every 5 years. Antibiotics have had mixed impact over each of these episodes, and eventually the symptoms went away over a period of a few months to a year. Outside of the acute infection phase *I am convinced this is a disorder of the mind rather than anything else, particularly since each of the 5 times I had this I was going through something stressful in my life, either related to a big move, big changes at work etc* I am currently working on evaluating the stress in my life and working on relaxation techniques such as meditation.
Had a prostate infection 2 yrs ago. Took cycle of antibiotics and infection went away. After a week symptoms returned. Doctor threw tons of antibiotics at me for 8 months with no relief. Scoped my bladder and gave me a staph infection that turned MRSA. Doctors gave up and I found the pH/Acid theory. Healed myself in 9 months for the MRSA by diet. Slight prostatitis still persisted even in absence of the bacteria. Started realizing that the pelvic floor muscles were spasming. Took 5-10mg at flare up and am 90% better. Exploring relaxation, kava-kava, stress relief and yoga for more natural remedy.
Re: Increased urinary frequency — there were times I would have to go every ten minutes for about 90 mins. drove me nuts. I used to marvel at men who went without for hours !
after draining the morning caffeine it would settle down to 1 or 2 times an hour but that was still hectic.
Re: Antibiotics — I had been prescribed the standard flourquinalones like Floxacin and Cipro , then later to Trimethoprim for the long term. All told I was on one of these medications for about ten years, because it's an area that gets very little good blood circulation to deliver the drug. n It was only when I had an intestinal parasite and took Vancomyacin (sp) that I ever became symptom free. That did the trick. although I had mild issues with urinary frequency since. So I started my own regimen of prostate massage every day in the shower. This amounts to no more than the insertion of a soapy finger to where I just make contact with the prostate and leave some soap in there- since it kills bacteria it keeps that as a cause in check.I have also learned to avoid caffeine as a major trigger. when I have days without I have far fewer trips to pee. Re: Pain in prostate, lower back, or groin — sudden acute pains in perineum area especially after orgasm.
Re: Antibiotics — nothing significant
Re: Antibiotics — I had limited success with Cipro and more with Ofloxacin but in 10 years of treatment the condition never cleared up fully until I was prescribed Vancomyecin for a different condition ( C difficile ). After that it has been gone for good ( 5 years clear). In the 10 years of treatment nothing else cured me including many years of taking trimethoprim. So many drugs are ineffective because of the limited blood flow to the prostate. I am shocked no one has developed a drug delivery via suppository that would make delivery to the target area so much more effective.
