I have listened to this CD and have found it calming and helpful. Healing With Hypnosis - Tinnitus from Steven Gurgevich PhD http://healingwithhypnosis.com
When the ringing is too annoying, I go to a free site for purple noise pulses. They inhibit (see lateral inhibition) the misfiring nerves causing the static to get completely silent for a few secs. It works for me and is very refreshing (it also is a normal mechanism of the brain for edge detection in your optic system). Get the mp3s or use it online.
But caution: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, can damage audio equipment or ears. I won't be responsible if you kill your stereo or hearing by high volumes. Start up at the lowest volume level. Before moving to headphones (never use headphones, so I cannot comment on the usefulness of them here), check if it's healthy for you using speakers, then adjust upwards. NEVER start out at loud or medium volume levels. It's pure static!!!

ammon888 Meditation and stress release helps. I also find I clench my teeth lightly while sleeping - this increases the tinnitus on waking.
peter_s Electrosensitivity symptoms are wide-ranging, but the most common one is ringing in the ears. I've gotton to the point that I can hear dirty electricity (noise on the normal 60Hz line). Instead of sound and air movement firing a nerve impulse to the brain, the jittey electric field is directly adding noise to the brain. Find a building biologist to help reduce the fields.
peter_s My ear ringng is worse when my axis bone (top of the spine) is out of alignment. I'm been doing a special form of chiropractic called "NUCCA" and that seems to silence the noise.
Re: Ringing in ears — approximately 500hz ringing. Present at all times.
shoelaced Re: White noise — White noise didn't help the problem at all, besides serving as a distraction. Just kinda covers the problem for a bit. Some therapists have claimed they can use certain sounds to heal the ear receptors that are causing the tinnitus, but I haven't tried that...
DH Re: Cognitive behavioral therapy — No side effects. I tell myself not to think about it, and it usually goes away for a while. While typing this, I can hear the high pitch, but of course I am thinking about it... Scenario: walk into a room, no tinnitus awareness, but if someone says "are your ears ringing?", the tinnitus starts immediately....
DH Re: Cognitive behavioral therapy — If I don't think about it, I don't "hear" it, or perhaps not aware of it. When I am occupied doing something, I can "tune it out". But, my wife also has tinnitus, and she says she can not do this...
